APPLYING THE COOK COUNTY HOMEOWNER PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION

Are you giving Cook County too much in property taxes?? If you own and live in your home, or if you bought your home in 2018, you are eligible to apply for Cook County’s Homeowners Exemption to save on your property taxes. One client recently saved $700+ (about 13%) on their tax bill.

All you need is your PIN number, basic personal details and a postage stamp to save a few hundred dollars each year.  Here’s how:

1.Check to see if you already have the Homeowners Exemption applied.

Enter your home’s PIN number into the Cook County Assessors Office Exemption Search. If you need your PIN, check your tax bill or Jen and Adele can easily pull this up for you.

Once you’re on your homes tax info page, click the tab that reads “Exemption History”. It will indicate whether you received the Homeowner or Senior Citizen exemptions in 2016 or 2017 (and if you have, the exemption amount). This is a good page to to bookmark in your browser for appeal history and certificate of error information.

2. If you do not have the Exemption applieddownload the Homeowner Exemption Application on Cook County Assessor’s website.

The form takes about 8 seconds to complete: Enter your PIN, phone number, name and address and signature mail this to the Assessor’s office.

3. When you receive your next tax bill installment, look for the Exemptions section to see your savings!
